With schools returning this week, so too has the athletic program at Mashpee High School. Two of the Falcons teams have already begun.
The boys’ golf team began the year with a very early match last Thursday, August 29. They edged Sturgis West by a 110-109 score to open with a 1-0 record. They will return to action after a layoff on September 9 with a match against East Bridgewater at Willowbend.
Mashpee’s girls’ soccer team played the first two games of its schedule this week, with a come-from-behind 1-1 draw at Falmouth and a lopsided 9-1 win against St. John Paul II.
The rest of the teams at Mashpee begin in earnest over the next few days. Today the Falcons’ field hockey program gets going with a trip to Norwell to take on the Clippers on the road at 4 PM. Also, the boys’ soccer team opens up its year with a game at home against Hull High. The girls will also be home, for their third game of the season, with Hull visiting. Originally the girls were supposed to be on the road, but the Pirates’ new facility is not yet complete and the game was shifted to the Cape.
Mashpee football will kick off its new year at home on Friday, September 13, with a home game against Nantucket High School. The Whalers will come to town for a 4 PM game.
