Joint Base Cape Cod Sign

The main entrance to Joint Base Cape Cod off the Otis Rotary in Bourne

A boil water advisory due to positive samples of E. coli in drinking water earlier this month at Joint Base Cape Cod was lifted by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Friday, September 24.

Routine samples collected the week of September 17 led to the discovery of the E. coli violation, which can occur when runoff enters the drinking water source after heavy rain or due to a break in the distribution system.

Temporary chlorination of the water distribution system on the base began on Septemer 18, and system-wide sampling followed. There were three consecutive days of safe coliform levels, the base official said.
