A look back at stories that made headlines this week in The Sandwich Enterprise:

Meet The New Hire At The Police Department
The newest member of the Sandwich Police Department doesn’t wear a uniform, doesn’t carry a gun, and doesn’t even hold a Massachusetts driver’s license. He is from overseas and doesn’t speak English. A handsome fellow, he has jet-black hair, intelligent eyes, four legs and sharp white teeth. Four legs? Sharp teeth?
His name is Rex, a 3-year-old Belgian shepherd recently acquired from Germany for the department’s canine program.
The dog was purchased, thanks in large part to the generosity of the American Legion Post 188. The members of the Sandwich post donated $1,800 toward Rex’s $2,800 purchase price. Most of the donation was raised through the post’s weekly bingo night.

Town’s Principals Forego Pay Raises
The financial outlook for the Sandwich School District has prompted the town’s four principals to give up their contractual pay raises for the coming fiscal year.
“It’s something they wanted to do,” Superintendent Mary Ellen Johnson said this week.
The principals were slated to each receive a 4.5 percent increase that would have totaled $17,753.
