During the week of April 7 through April 14, 2021, Sandwich police responded to a total of 185 calls including two ambulance assists and seven car crashes. Officers made five arrests. The following are excerpts from their logs.

Wednesday, April 7

At 4:14 PM, police stopped a vehicle driven by Dustin A. Pratt, 37, of Forestdale, at the intersection of Falmouth-Sandwich Road and Route 130. Police said that in speaking with Mr. Pratt, it was determined that he was under the influence of drugs. A number of Adderall pills were also found in his vehicle, police said. Mr. Pratt was arrested and charged with possession of a Class B drug for a subsequent offense and operating under the influence of drugs.

Police were called to the CVS Pharmacy on Quaker Meetinghouse Road at 4:29 PM when a pharmacy employee reported that an unruly customer was yelling at them and the customer was no longer welcome in the store. Police said that the pharmacist was advised on how to have the customer banned from the store.

A Hanover woman was injured when her car rolled over on Old County Road. Police responded to the scene of the single-car crash at 4:48 PM. The driver of the vehicle, Daryl Paone, 68, had crawled out of her car before police arrived. She was complaining of some pain and was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Police said Ms. Paone crashed into a telephone pole, which was heavily damaged and needed to be replaced.

A caller from Main Street contacted police at 8:28 PM to report that a suspicious man with a bicycle was at the town hall water bubbler fountain and asking her concerning questions. Police said that nothing came of the incident.

Thursday, April 8

A Coventry Place resident contacted police at 2:13 PM to report that the property’s previous owner had left a motor vehicle in the yard. The previous owner was located, and arrangements were made to remove the vehicle.

As the result of a traffic stop at the intersection of Pimlico Pond Road and Route 130 at 3:24 PM, Nancy J. Amaral, 58, of Forestdale was arrested and charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Police responded to the scene of a car crash at the intersection of Quaker Meetinghouse and Service roads at 3:28 PM. Police said that the crash occurred when a 17-year-old East Sandwich man was unable to stop in time and his vehicle rear-ended a car driven by Gayle Potinchny, 77, of Sandwich. No one was injured, and the teenager was cited for failure to yield.

Police responded to the scene of a car crash on Route 130 at 5:14 PM. Police said that the crash occurred when Ryan Oldfield, 26, of Sandwich was distracted by picking up his cellphone from the floor of his car and his vehicle rear-ended a car driven by Robin Kenney, 56, of Forestdale. No one was injured, and Mr. Oldfield was cited for using an electronic device while driving.

A 911 caller alerted police to an erratic driver at the intersection of Route 130 and Brightside Lane at 8:42 PM. Police stopped the car and identified the driver as Amanda Favulli, 36, of Mashpee. Ms. Favulli had a child in the car with her. Police determined that Ms. Favulli was under the influence of drugs. She also told them that she had taken prescription medication before driving. She was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and child endangerment while operating under the influence of drugs.

Friday, April 9

As the result of a traffic stop on Route 130 at 11:05 AM a 35-year-old Wareham man will be summoned to court on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license for a subsequent offense and a marked lanes violation.

Police responded to the scene of a car crash at the intersection of Route 6A and Carleton Drive at 5:28 PM. As the result of the crash, a 61-year-old East Boston man will be summoned to court on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to yield at an intersection.

Police were called to John Ewer Road at 5:39 PM when a woman reported that her 17-year-old daughter had taken her car without permission and that her daughter had a learner’s permit, but was not fully licensed. The vehicle was located in Marshfield and the teenager will be charged with using a motor vehicle without authority and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

A Falmouth-Sandwich Road resident contacted police at 8:29 PM to report that their child had been receiving unwanted text messages from other students. Police said that School Resource Officer Jessica Kent will be investigating the incident.

A caller from Dogwood Drive contacted police at 8:46 PM to report that a man and a woman were yelling at each other. Police said that the two people were discussing what to do about an injured rabbit and they had decided to bring the creature to an animal hospital.

Saturday, April 10

Police responded to the scene of a multiple car crash on Route 6A at 10:54 AM. Police said that the crash occurred when Frederick Dempsey, 86, of West Barnstable did not see Joseph Giampietro, 58, of Sandwich, slow down in traffic. The impact of Mr. Dempsey’s crashing into the rear of Mr. Giampietro’s car caused that vehicle to crash into the rear of a car driven by Elmer Rodriguez, 69, of Forestdale. No one was injured or cited.

An Uphill Road resident contacted police at 9:52 PM to report receiving threatening messages from an acquaintance. Police spoke to both people and advised them to stop messaging each other.

Monday, April 12

Police were called to the Sandwich Motor Lodge at 12:39 AM when the manager reported seeing two men trying to gain entry to a room with a key that did not belong to the establishment. The men left in a silver sedan before police arrived.

Police responded to the scene of a car crash at the intersection of Brightside Lane and Route 130 at 3:46 PM. Police said that the crash occurred when William Caccialini, 51, of East Wareham crashed into a car driven by Nicholas White, 23, of East Falmouth, which crashed into a car driven by Jeffrey Barnham, 59, of Mashpee, which crashed into a car driven by Mark Favulli, 62, of East Falmouth. No one was injured, and Mr. Caccialini was cited for traveling at a speed grater than reasonable.

A caller from Hammond Road contacted police at 6:30 PM to report seeing two suspicious vehicles near the beach area. The caller had spoken to the occupants, who claimed that they lived in the area, but the caller believed they did not live there. Police said that the cars were not there when they arrived.

Tuesday, April 13

Police were called to John Ewer Road at 3:22 PM when someone reported seeing a man who was possibly under the influence of drugs passed out behind the wheel of a car. Police said that the man was woken up. He claimed he was taking a quick nap before going home. Sandwich paramedics checked the man’s medical condition and cleared him to drive.

Police arrested Steven J. Rose, 36, of Falmouth at 5:42 PM at the intersection of Quaker Meetinghouse Road and Courtland Drive following a traffic stop where it was discovered he had an active warrant for his arrest. He was arrested without incident.
