Joseph Rotondo, the son of Mark Rotondo of East Sandwich, was recently awarded the 2019 AMS/Lockheed Martin Scholarship. Joseph is a graduate of Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical High School and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in meteorology at the University of Oklahoma.

The AMS Freshman Undergraduate Scholarship is intended to encourage high school students to pursue careers in the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences. The scholarships are sponsored by industry and through the support of AMS members. Nine freshman scholarships were awarded this year. The scholarships are based on merit and are awarded to students who have shown the potential for accomplishment in these fields. The award is $2,500 for a nine-month period in the freshman year, and an additional $2,500 for a nine-month period in the sophomore year, based on performance in the first year.
