Students in the Sandwich Public Schools are less than a week away from starting their summer vacations.
Thursday, June 17, marks the last day of school for the town’s students. It will be a half day.
Even though the school year started about two weeks later than expected, classes are able to end this early for a couple of reasons.
First, the only snow day the district had was a remote learning day and as such was not counted as a day off. Second, the state reduced the total number of required days by ten, to 170, due to the pandemic.
While the regular school year is coming to a close, the school will be debuting its Summer Scholars program on Tuesday, July 13.
The program aims to keep students engaged in math and reading throughout the summer. It will run three days a week through August 5 at Sandwich High School. Students will also have the opportunity to take a special of their choice.
