A young driver was uninjured after she crashed her vehicle into a utility pole, flipping the vehicle onto its side, on Charles Street Monday morning, April 26.
Police responded to the scene of the single-vehicle crash at 7:30 AM.
The young driver, a 17-year-old girl from Sandwich, had climbed out of the overturned Jeep by the time police arrived. She did not require medical attention, police said.
She told police she had glanced down at her cell phone just before the crash, police said. That glance was enough to cause her to lose control of the vehicle and veer off the roadway and into the pole. The impact flipped the vehicle onto its side and tore the front right wheel off.
The roadway was closed for approximately 1 hour while officers investigated the crash and utility crews evaluated the damage done to the pole.
Police did not cite the driver.
