A 60-year-old Sandwich man was charged with disorderly conduct Sunday, October 31, after arguing with his neighbors over tomato plants.
Three women in their 60s and 70s, who live in an apartment complex off Toms Way, contacted police at 11:22 AM to report their neighbor was yelling at them, accusing them of stealing his plants and throwing plant stakes at them.
The trouble with the neighbor has been ongoing, and police were later called back to the complex to talk to the man who said he has been dealing with a lot and recognized he lost his temper and got a little out of control.
However, he said he strongly believed the women had taken tomatoes from him. The next day,Monday, November 1, he contacted police again to say he had a witness who saw one of the women ripping up his tomato garden.
When questioned, the woman denied ripping up the plants and said she saw them lying on the ground and was attempting to stake them up again.
Several people in the apartment complex told police the man does not like his garden to be touched but the man stated it is not his garden; it belongs to the community. However, the plants are his.
He was charged with disorderly conduct and accosting another person and ordered to appear at Barnstable District Court.
