Police say a 39-year-old Dorchester man was driving drunk along Route 130 with three young children in his car.
A caller alerted police to the erratic driver in a Nissan Rogue on Saturday, August 8, at 8:49 PM. Police caught up with the car and reported observing it sway across the center line before they pulled the driver over.
When the officer approached the car, they noticed three children in the rear, ages 6, 12, and 13: two in the back seats and the third in the cargo area, according to the police report. None of them were wearing seat belts, police said.
The officer said the driver, identified as Eder Pinheiro De Souza, 39, of Dorchester, smelled strongly of alcohol. When the officer asked Mr. De Souza to step out of the car, the vehicle began to roll forward. The officer reminded Mr. De Souza to put the car into park.
Mr. De Souza was given a series of field sobriety tests, which police said he failed. He was arrested and charged with drunk driving, child endangerment while driving drunk, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and failing to stay within marked lanes.
