A road rage incident turned violent when, police said, a man choked another man following a minor crash on Route 130 in Sandwich.
Police were called to the Speedway gas station on Route 130 at 1:22 PM on Friday, April 2 when the incident was reported.
Police said that the initial crash occurred when two vehicles collided at the point in the road when two lanes merge into one. The driver of one of the vehicles, Michael C. Ferullo Jr., pulled into the nearby gas station.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 62-year-old Forestdale man, followed him into the parking lot and, according to police, intentionally rammed the back of Mr. Ferullo’s vehicle to prevent him from leaving.
Both men exited their vehicles, and began arguing. The argument quickly turned into a physical altercation, during which, police said, Mr. Ferullo choked the Forestdale man and threw him to the ground.
Paramedics evaluated the Forestdale man at the scene for minor injuries.
Mr. Ferullo was arrested and charged with assault and battery on someone over the age of 60, strangulation or suffocation, a marked lanes violation, leaving the scene of property damage, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
The other man will be summoned to court on a charge of negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
