The Sandwich Fire Department responded to Anderson Avenue Tuesday night, January 25, at 9:30 for reports of a house fire.

When firefighters arrived, the fire appeared to be extinguished and all occupants were out of the house but crews continued to check the building for any possible signs of fire or smoke, Deputy Fire Chief Timothy Q. McMahon said.

The initial investigation showed the cause of the fire was likely cooking on the stovetop. The kitchen sustained nearly $20,000 worth of damage from the flames and smoke, fire officials said.
