Sandwich Harbormaster employees retrieved a tent Wednesday afternoon, August 21, that was blown into Cape Cod Bay by a gust of wind.

The unoccupied tent had been set up in the sand on the Sandwich end of Sagamore Beach when a gust of wind sent it sailing into the bay.

A nearby boater tried to grab the tent but the wind kept catching it, sending it farther and farther out to sea.

A caller, thinking the tent was a sailor in trouble, reported the incident and the harbormaster workers responded.

They were able to wrestle the water-logged tent aboard their boat and bring it to the Sandwich Marina, where it was returned to its thankful owners, who had traveled from North Carolina to visit family in Sandwich.

The tent was intact, with only a few personal items missing.
