Police were called to Seafood Sam’s on Coast Guard Road for a fight in progress in the parking lot on Thursday last week, September 16, at 6:58 PM.

Upon arrival, US Coast Guard members were administering first aid to the victim, who was knocked unconscious during the altercation, and police were advised that the assailant, a 46-year-old Sandwich man, had left the scene in a black van.

According to witnesses, the victim attempted to back out of the parking lot and did not see the van behind him. He attempted to get out of the way when the operator of the van slammed on his brakes and got out of his vehicle.

When the victim exited his vehicle, the assailant punched him in the face and knocked him out. The victim told police he only remembers being punched once but witnesses stated he was struck numerous times by the assailant.

A witness took a photograph of the assailant’s license plate and gave it to police, who went to his house to speak with him.

He refused to speak, police said, and was summoned to Barnstable District Court on charges of assault and battery, disorderly conduct and affraying common law.
