A minor two-car crash led to the arrest of a Sagamore man last Thursday, August 8 in Sandwich.

Police were called to the intersection of Route 6A and Burbank Street at 8:22 PM when the crash was reported.

When police arrived, they saw that both cars had been pulled off the side of the roadway. One of the drivers stated that she had been stopped at a stop sign when she was rear-ended by another vehicle.

The other driver, identified as Michael A. Ventura, 23, of Sagamore, said that he had been looking at his phone and could not stop in time. Police said that while talking with Mr. Ventura, they could smell alcohol and detected slurred speech.

He was given a series of field sobriety tests, which he failed, police said.

Mr. Ventura was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of liquor, operating so as to endanger, and unsafe operation of a motor vehicle.
