A man who called police regarding an altercation in the parking lot of Stop & Shop on Route 6A on Saturday, January 2, ended up facing assault charges.
The 60-year-old Buzzards Bay man and his wife contacted police at 12:18 PM to report that a woman had become agitated while the couple were putting groceries in their car. The couple said they were parked very close to the woman’s pickup truck, so close that she could not get into her vehicle.
They said the woman placed a grocery cart behind the couple’s car, which they crashed into when they backed out of the space.
Police said they checked the couple’s vehicle but did not see any damage.
The woman involved in the incident also contacted police. She told police that she did put the cart behind their car, but then the man got out of his car and rammed the cart into her truck.
Police said they found damage to the pickup consistent with the woman’s version of the story.
Police said that as a result, police have summoned the Buzzards Bay man to court on charges of malicious damage to a motor vehicle and assault with a dangerous weapon.
