A Hyannis man will be summonsed to court after police say he took an envelope of money that someone had dropped on the floor of a bank on Tuesday, November 19.

Police were called to the Cape Cod Cooperative Bank on Cotuit Road at 8:24 AM when an employee reported the theft. The employee said that a woman had been at the bank earlier and left the counter with an envelope containing cash. She accidentally dropped the envelope on the floor without noticing and left.

A short time later, a man came in to the bank to conduct his own banking business and, according to police, picked up the envelope that was on the floor. Instead of turning the envelope in, he put it into his pocket and left the bank, police said.

The man was identified as a 41-year-old man from Hyannis. Police attempted to contact the man about the found money, but the man did not respond to those attempts.

As a result of the incident, the man will be summoned to court on a charge of larceny under $1,200.
