Police have been unable to locate a motorcyclist who may have crashed last Friday, August 2, on Main Street in Sandwich Village.

Police were called to the area near the American Legion at 12:30 AM when someone reported seeing a motorcycle in the woods off the roadway. The caller said they had spoken to the man who had been driving the motorcycle and he reportedly said he was hurt. The biker had left the area before police arrived, but the motorcycle was left where it had fallen.

Using the vehicle’s license plate, police identified the operator and checked his home, but he was not there.

They were able to make contact the man over the phone, but when police announced who they were, the man hung up. When police attempted to call him back, it appeared that he had shut off his phone.

Police also searched the area where the crash occurred using a police canine, but the search did not find the man. The motorcycle was towed.

The man has yet to be located and police were unsure if any charges might be filed in the incident.
