An East Sandwich man was wounded by a raccoon after he reportedly swatted the animal with a golf club when he encountered it inside his garage on Fish House Road.

Police received a call from Falmouth Hospital at 5:47 PM on Saturday, June 1. The caller said that they were treating a male patient for a raccoon scratch that he had received the previous day.

When the Sandwich Animal Control officer spoke with the man, he told them that he had been in his garage when he saw the raccoon. He said he grabbed a golf club and hit the animal, at which point the raccoon scratched him and ran off into the woods.

The man said after a night’s sleep, he decided to head to the hospital to have the wound looked at.

Animal Control told the man to let them know if the raccoon showed up again, so that they could capture it and send it to Boston for rabies testing.
