Adventure Park At Heritage Museums & Gardens

Visitors experience the adventure park at Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich before it was closed down.

A regional historic board on Tuesday, October 16, upheld an earlier finding that Heritage Museums & Gardens’ redesigned ropes course is appropriate for the Sandwich historic district.

The 4-1 decision, with one abstention, came after more than two hours of testimony from representatives of Heritage and from neighbors of nearby homes who object to what they consider the zipline’s commercial appearance and potential traffic.

The Old King’s Highway Regional Historic District Commission on Tuesday was upholding the unanimous September decision by the local historic board—formally known as the Sandwich Old King’s Highway Historic District Committee—to grant Heritage’s proposed new zipline a certificate of appropriateness.

The neighbors had appealed the Sandwich board’s decision to the regional board.

In my opinion, after having completed this course a few years ago, it's an asset to the area. The only negative is the increased traffic in the immediate area. Once again, the NIMBYS are hard at work trying to kill the fun!
