A Sandwich man is facing a second charge of operating under the influence following a brief pursuit near Boardley Lane on Monday, July 22.
An officer driving along Boardley Road at 9:45 PM reported seeing a vehicle being driven in the middle of the roadway, straddling the center line, and the driver was sounding teh car's horn. The officer activated the cruiser's lights and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver would not stop.
Police said that a man's face could be seen in the driver's side mirror looking at the cruiser behind him.
The driver finally pulled into a driveway on Heather Hill Road. Police said that the driver threw the door open with enough force that the man nearly fell out of the vehicle. The man was identified as Kurt J. Lawson, 31, of Sandwich.
Police said that they could smell alcohol and that Mr. Lawson's eyes were bloodshot and glassy. He was not given field sobriety tests.
Mr. Lawson was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of liquor for a second offense, failure to stop for police, operating to endanger, and a marked lanes violation.
