An emergency meeting of the Sandwich School Committee will be held virtually on Monday, September 14, to review a school policy pertaining to students who walk or ride a bike to school.

The meeting is public and will be held on Google Meet at 4:30 PM.

The policy states that students in kindergarten through 12th grade will be transported to school at no cost if the distance between the student’s home and school is greater than one mile. This distance is calculated using the most direct route via public roads and is not a straight line between points.

The policy says the distance is calculated from the property line of a student’s residence to the nearest public access road of the school.

Additionally, the policy indicates that door-to-door bus service is not a service students are entitled to but the distance between a child’s bus stop and property will not be greater than one mile.

The policy cites Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 71, section 68.
