A group of Sandwich High School students staged a “stand-out” in front of the school Friday morning, September 20 to raise awareness about climate change.

Armed with protest signs, the students called out to other students and staff members who were arriving for the start of the school day. They also passed out flyers about a planned Climate Strike protest at 10 AM on Saturday, September 21, at Mill Creek Park on Route 6A, across the street from the Sandwich Town Hall.

The student group had initially considered having a walk-out, but decided that it would be more effective to hand out information while people came into the building in the morning.

“As people are coming in, they’ll be forced to see us,” said Sandwich High School Senior Jacob Swenson.

He said school administrators agreed to allow the stand-out.
