Andrew Jeffrey Degan, the 18-year-old son of Michael D. Degan of Sandwich and Michelle E. (Degon-Rinaldi) Degan of Bourne, died in a single-vehicle accident Friday morning, October 1.
Andrew, who would have celebrated his 19th birthday on November 19, grew up in Sandwich. He graduated from Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School in Bourne with the Class of 2021.
He learned about the heating, ventilation and air conditioning industry through his studies in the HVAC program at the school, and was recognized with the top shop honors/scholarship in his field of study.
Through an Upper Cape Tech cooperative program, he began working at Carl F. Riedell & Son, Inc. during his junior year. His work ethic and the competency he displayed on the job gained him a permanent position upon completing his education. Andrew was on his way to work early Friday when the rollover crash happened on Mid-Cape Highway.
Andrew liked the challenge of figuring out how things work and how he could fix them when they were broken. He also was known for his curiosity, which prompted him to explore and master a range of subjects.
He enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family and gifting homemade items to his girlfriend, Haley Bowman of Buzzards Bay.
In addition to his parents, he leaves his brothers, William Degon-Rinaldi of Mansfield, Daniel Degan of Buzzards Bay and Timothy Degan of Sandwich; his grandparents Sharron (Goulet) Degon Rinaldi of Sandwich and Donald M. Degan of Bourne and his partner, Lyse Poulin of Sandwich; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Frances M. (Bernabei) Degan and James V. Rinaldi.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, October 7, from 4 to 8 PM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Boulevard in Bourne.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Friday, October 8, at noon at St. Margaret's Church, 101 Main Street in Buzzards Bay.
Burial will be private.
