Barbara J. (Morris) Allen, 76, of Sandwich died March 17 at Cape Heritage Nursing Home in Sandwich.

She was the wife of Philip R. Allen, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage.

She was born in Dorchester, the daughter of Charles and Evelyn (Ritchie) Morris. She was raised in North Quincy, where she attended high school. After high school she worked for an insurance company, followed by the Federal Communication Commission.

Ms. Allen and her husband lived in Sandwich for most of their life together and raised their three sons here. She taught Sunday school at the church in the center of town that is now the Belfry Inn & Bistro.

Accomplished at knitting, sewing, baking and gardening, she also enjoyed reading and being near the ocean, often taking her coffee and the newspaper to sit by the beach or the marina early in the morning.

In addition to her husband, she leaves her sons, Dennis Allen of Worcester, Matthew Allen of Sandwich, and Jonathan Allen and his wife, Maria Allen, of Sagamore Beach; a grandson, Dominic Allen, also of Sagamore Beach; four siblings; and extended family.

She was predeceased by a brother.

Visiting hours will be Saturday, March 23, from 10 AM to noon at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A in Sandwich. A funeral home service will begin at noon, followed by burial at Sandwich Town Cemetery.
