Betsy Ann Goodman, who leaves family in Sandwich, died November 6 in Hyannis, two days before her 61st birthday.
She was the wife of Emmett Goodman.
As an 8-year-old growing up in Centerville, she began what would be a career in retail by shining neighbors’ shoes and creating and selling pet rocks at the local craft fairs.
Ms. Goodman graduated from Barnstable High School, Cape Cod Community College and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She furthered her education at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, earning a master of science degree.
She moved to Gainesville, Florida, in 2000 and joined the David F. Miller Retail Center in the Warrington College of Business; she became executive director of the center in 2017. Although Ms. Goodman maintained professional relationships throughout the retail industry, her greatest satisfaction came from the connections formed with the students she inspired.
In addition to her husband, she leaves a daughter, Kaylyn Trobaugh of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; two brothers, Victor Lahteine of Plymouth and Drew Lahteine of East Sandwich; and extended family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Irene Lahteine; and her sister, Nancy Jean Lahteine Palmer.
Services will be private and a celebration of her life planned for a later date.
