Word has been received that Dr. Steven F. Mucci of East Sandwich, died on May 24 after a battle with lung cancer. He was 59.

He grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School, Class of 1978. He graduated from Tufts University, Class of 1982, magna cum laude, with a bachelor of science in biology. He went on to graduate from Tufts University Medical School, Class of 1988, where he received his medical degree. He also worked at the Tufts University School of Medicine Department of Immunology, in Boston and Massachusetts Institute of Technology Genetic Engineering Laboratory in Cambridge before attending medical school.

He interned in general surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, New Hampshire, from 1988-1990. He went on to do his otolaryngology head and neck surgery residency at The Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, from 1990-1993. He returned to practice and live in Massachusetts. He became a board-certified otolaryngologist and was employed at Cape Cod Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists in Hyannis.

An avid Boston sports fan, he enjoyed doing the New York Times crossword puzzle, working at Ring Bros Marketplace in Dennis and his dachshund Karl.

He leaves his wife of 31 years, Patricia (Farrell) Mucci; two children, Andrew Mucci of East Sandwich, and Evelyn Mucci of Melrose; his parents, Franklin and Marie Mucci of Medford; two sisters Karen Mucci of Hollywood, Florida, and Patricia Mucci of Medford; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and other extended family.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at The Bigelow Chapel, Mount Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mount Auburn Street in Cambridge on Saturday, August 3, at noon.
