James J. ‘Jim’ Sutton, 72,  of Sagamore Beach, died on May 11 at Cape Heritage Nursing Home in Sandwich.

He was the beloved husband of Joan L. ‘Joanie’ (Sherman) Sutton for 45 years. He was the son of James B. and Germaine M. (Fournier) Sutton.

Mr. Sutton leaves his mother-in-law, Elizabeth R. Sherman of Plymouth. He also leaves his three sisters-in-law, their husbands and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Maureen Anderson

Mr. Sutton was born in Wareham. He attended Bourne schools and worked for the Massachusetts highway department for 37 years until his retirement in 2001. His favorite part of his job was in the winter when it was time to bring out the snow plows and sanders.

During his retirement he worked part-time for 13 years at Shaws Supermarket in Cedarville. Jim and Joanie spent more than 20 years traveling in their RV. They would journey across the country to visit with their nieces and nephews and also enjoyed leisurely camping in Maine and New Hampshire. Mr. Sutton was a member of the Monument Beach Sportsman Club and loved to spend time working in his yard.

A period of visitation will take place today, May 16, from 4 to 7 PM at the Davis Life Celebration Funeral and Cremation Home, 619 State Road, Plymouth. A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 AM tomorrow, May 17, at St. Bonaventure Church, 803 State Road, Plymouth. The interment will be in Cedarville Cemetery following the Mass.
