Janet Winslow, who was born and raised in Sandwich, died May 22 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, Maine. Ms. Winslow, a resident of Union, Maine, died at the age of 66 after a long battle with cancer.
The daughter of John Hilton Winslow and Eleanor Crowell Winslow, during the summers of her youth she worked at Crow Farm in Sandwich. She graduated from Sandwich High School and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
Ms. Winslow spent her adult life living in Maine. She retired after a 35-year career working at the water company in Rockland and Rockport.
She was a lover of gardening and was known in her neighborhood as being accomplished at growing tomatoes. During her retirement, she worked part-time at Barley Joe Greenhouse in Warren. Ms. Winslow was active with the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and served as a volunteer for the group each year in the exhibition hall at the Common Ground Fair in Unity.
She loved kayaking, and taking annual trips to Baxter State Park and Monhegan Island; she also was an avid birder. She supported local libraries.
Ms. Winslow leaves her mother in Sandwich; and, in Maine, she leaves her companion of 34 years, Edgar Moody of Union; Mr. Moody’s children, Beth Moore of Jefferson and Dawn Daggett of Rockport; her brother, John Winslow of Wells; and extended family.
A private family gathering will be held in Sandwich at a later date.
