John Michael Cowley, 56, of Sandwich died November 25 at McCarthy Care Center in East Sandwich, following a recent diagnosis of neuroendocrine cancer.

He was the son of W. Michael and Eileen (Cahill) Cowley of Rancho Cucamonga, California, and formerly of Mashpee.

He was born in Rochester, New York. He was a member of the Gates Chili High School Class of 1983 in Rochester and furthered his education at the University of Dayton, graduating in 1987.

Mr. Cowley’s connection to Cape Cod began as a child on family camping trips to Truro. During summer between his college years he scooped ice cream at Friendly’s in Orleans.

He later worked as manager at Strawberries Music and Borders Books. Most recently he was employed by FedEx.

Mr. Cowley was an ardent fan of the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Dodgers, despite years of living in New England.

In addition to his parents, he leaves a sister, Kathleen Cabrera, and a niece, also of California; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Burial will be in California.
