John Patrick Loftus of North Port, Florida, who had owned JPL Electronics in Sandwich, died at home on August 27. He was 91.
He was the husband of Marceline A. (Rowney) Loftus.
His first wife, Lorraine Rhea (Cantin) Loftus, died in 1994.
The son of John Patrick and Etta Hazel (Munroe) Loftus, he was born and raised in Fall River. He graduated from Durfee High School in 1948, and later attended Bradford Durfee Technical Institute.
Mr. Loftus enlisted in the Massachusetts Army National Guard in 1951, graduated from the Massachusetts Military Academy and served for 35 years; he retired as a command sergeant major. While serving in the US Army, he specialized as a radar and avionics technician.
Upon his retirement in 1986, Mr. Loftus was the co-owner of Southeast Satellite and Video, Inc., in Yarmouth and, later, the owner of JPL Electronics in Sandwich.
In North Port he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #7997.
In his free time Mr. Loftus enjoyed woodworking and followed the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his sons, John P. Loftus of Chelmsford and Wayne T. Loftus of Hyannis; his daughter, Mary M. Petrucci of Sandwich; two sisters, Mary Claire Sullivan of Somerset and Joan M. Sanders of Fountain Valley, California; six grandchildren, John P. Loftus, Ryan J. Loftus and Deirdre L. Loftus, all of Chelmsford, Scott R. Petrucci and Sarah L. Petrucci of Sandwich, and Paige A. Loftus of North Dartmouth; and extended family.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday, September 8, from 9 to 10:30 AM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A in Sandwich.
Following visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11 AM at Corpus Christi Church, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Road in East Sandwich.
Burial will be at 12:45 PM at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
A memorial service will take place September 30 in Florida.
