Marie Celine Murphy of East Sandwich died February 10 at Royal Cape Cod Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Buzzards Bay from congestive heart failure. She was 92.

The daughter of Frederick and Patience Robertie, she was born in Dorchester. She grew up and lived in Dorchester and Brighton.

After graduating from Presentation Academy in Brighton in 1944 and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1947, Ms. Murphy worked for many years as a private duty registered nurse.

She married William E. Murphy in 1947 and they lived in Brookline. When her husband retired from his post as chief of the Brookline Fire Department in 1979, the couple moved to Sandwich.

Ms. Murphy was a devout Catholic and was known for her baking and crocheting skills.

She leaves eight children, Celine M. Hardy, John F. Murphy and Kathleen T. Murphy, all of Sandwich, William E. Murphy Jr. of Attleboro, Jeanne Waters of Medford, Gerard Murphy of Keene, New Hampshire, Kevin P. Murphy of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Brian Murphy of Cheektowaga, New York; 21 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years; and her son Richard Murphy.

Visiting hours will be Monday, February 17, from 5 to 7 PM at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Avenue in Mashpee.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 18, at 11 AM at Parish of Christ the King in Mashpee.

Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
