Matthew B. Smillie, 62, of Sandwich died November 25.

He was the husband of Janet F. Smillie.

Born in Boston, he was a graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood and Framingham State University.

Mr. Smillie and his business partner owned a manufacturing company in Hanover for the past 33 years.

He enjoyed golf, boating, travel and cheering on Boston sports teams, especially the New England Patriots. For many years, he was a regular participant in a group of Patriots supporters from Sandwich who gathered for tailgating festivities in the afternoon hours prior to the team's home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, according to an article from the January 2004 Enterprise archives. Mr. Smillie also had a love for history.

In addition to his wife, he leaves their daughter Anna F. Smillie; his mother, Barbara (Brennan) Smillie; and five siblings.

He was preceded in death in 2001 by his father, Richard Nelson Smillie Sr.; and by his daughter Margaret Grace Smillie, 19, who died November 12, 2007, after living with cystic fibrosis.

A funeral service will be Thursday, December 2, at 5:30 PM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A in Sandwich.

Burial will be private.
