Roanne Gene Wallace of Mashpee died on July 22 while in hospice care at the Royal of Cotuit Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center. She was 91 years old. She leaves family in Sandwich.
She was the widow of Frederick E. Wallace.
Born in Smackover, Arkansas, Ms. Wallace spent her teenage years in Oil City, and later Jackson City, Mississippi. She moved with her family to Duarte, California, in the 1950s, where she raised three children and served as an administrative assistant/secretary in the Duarte Unified School District.
Later, Ms. Wallace and her husband managed a mobile home park in West Covina, California, from which they retired in 1998.
They moved to Cape Cod to live near Ms. Wallace’s eldest son.
Her handcrafts, including ceramics, decoupage, knitting, crocheting and needlepoint, decorate the homes of three generations, and her knitted items have been donated to many charities.
She leaves her three sons, Henry Baley of East Sandwich; Stephen Baley of Madison, Missouri; and Frederick E. Wallace III, of Tewksbury; two daughters, Donna Fairhurst of Kissimmee, Florida, and Faith Walsh of Lowell; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her niece, Cindy Holt of Madison, Missouri.
A private burial service and memorial gathering of family and friends is planned for a later date.
