Virginia M. Metcalf, who lived in Sandwich for 72 years prior to moving to Florida, has died at the age of 93. Ms. Metcalf died October 3 at the Life Care Center of Melbourne, Florida.

Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of Milton F. Geltz and Virginia E. (Hardwick) Geltz.

Ms. Metcalf was one of 13 students in the Class of 1944 graduating in Sandwich that year.

She leaves a son, Robert Metcalf of Wareham; a daughter, Marilyn Metcalf of Palm Bay, Florida; six grandchildren, Melissa Summers, Jill Freebern, Jason Metcalf, Kyle Metcalf, Kerry Carabetta and Derek Souza; eight great-grandchildren; and extended family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Erwin Metcalf; two children, Ronald Metcalf and Gail Metcalf; and a brother, Milton Geltz.

A funeral service was celebrated Monday, October 28, at Corpus Christi Church in East Sandwich.

Burial was at South Sandwich Cemetery.
