William J. Ryan of Centerville died September 15 after a brief battle with brain cancer. He leaves family in Sandwich.

He was survived by four siblings, Bob Ryan of Sandwich, Dot Lewis of Hyannis, Anne Morrison of Mashpee and John Ryan of Sarasota, Florida; their four spouses; eight nieces and nephews; and a large family of grandnieces and nephews.

Mr. Ryan moved to Cape Cod in 1978 to build a retirement home for his parents, fell in love with the Cape and stayed. He and his brother, Bob Ryan of Sandwich, spent many years building and remodeling homes. In 1998 Mr. Ryan became a top-producing real estate agent earning many awards from Coldwell Banker and Century 21, eventually working for William Raveis Real Estate in Osterville.

In his younger years, Mr. Ryan was a devoted camper, scuba diver and traveler.

He enjoyed hosting parties for family and friends and baking, bringing pies and cakes to family events and parties with friends and colleagues.

A public funeral Mass for Mr. Ryan is to be held today at Corpus Christi Parish in Sandwich followed by a private gathering.
