I am thankful and humbled by the overwhelming outpouring of support my office received as we prepared for Tuesday’s election. I would like to publicly thank everyone that came forward to help these elections run smoothly, safely and efficiently. To my dedicated staff, who worked tirelessly to ensure mail-in ballots were sent out and processed in a timely manner. To the seasoned election workers and first-time election workers who answered the call to man the polls. Our facilities department, who quickly prepared Plexiglas shields; and the fire department, who provided our poll workers with PPE and staff to keep voting areas clean throughout the day. The school department provided staff and support to assist in setting up the polling locations. The health department, who provided guidance to ensure both the public and election workers were protected. The town staff that manned the check-in and check-out tables and even our golf director, who assisted in the procurement of one-time-use voting pencils. The list goes on and on.
From every corner of our town people stood up and offered their assistance. Without these collective efforts this election would not have been possible. Lastly, but certainly not least, I would like to thank the residents of Sandwich. Your help by voting early, understanding the precautions put in place and adhering to the public health guidelines on election day truly made the difference. Despite the world changing quickly around us the fundamental cornerstone of our American democracy has prevailed.
