Outdoor Ventures Group is a Big Business. They applied to the Sandwich Zoning Board for a special permit to operate a challenge course. To sneak by a judge’s ruling, they re-describe it as a small-scale outdoor community recreation facility on two residential lots 37-01 and 37-02 in the historic district. The ZBA agrees that re-describing the challenge course as small-scale outdoor community absolutely side steps a superior court judge’s ruling that closed down this exact challenge course because it caused neighboring properties to lose 10 percent in their value due to traffic and the change in the character of neighborhood. Big Business draws 30,000 customers, every summer, June through September. Big Business operates all day every summer day 8 AM to 8 PM.

Big Business charges customers $45 for three hours per youngster. Big Business is historically totally booked July and August. Big Business pulls customers from all New England. Big Business causes 25 to 30 percent increase in traffic on Sandwich scenic country roads. Envision Heritage not involved whatsoever. Envision Big Business convincing the Sandwich Zoning Board of Appeals that the Outdoor Ventures Group challenge course meets the definition of small-scale community recreation. Fat chance!
