Thank you, Sandwich, for your resounding yes vote for the library renovation project. We’re excited to get to work!

As chairman of the library trustees, there are many people I would like to thank. Town Manager Bud Dunham has been tremendously helpful from the very beginning. Dave Sampson, chairman of the Board of Selectmen, has been a clear-sighted and committed supporter all along. Thank you to Selectman Charlie Holden for his great enthusiasm, and to Selectmen Bobby George, Shane Hoctor, and Michael Miller for their determination to support good works in Sandwich. And a warm thank-you to each and all of the committees, clubs, and social groups who invited us to speak at their gatherings. A huge measure of our success came from our partnership with the Sandwich Council on Aging—thank you, Pat Collins and Susan Marancik for all your collaboration. Good luck on your Center for Active Living project—I look forward to seeing your vision realized!

If you’ve ever worked on a large project, you know it takes a team. The library effort received smart and decisive help and generous financial support from the Friends of the Library, especially from Gail Ravetz, Becky Milburne, and Tammy McDevitt. Trustees Joe Roche, Christine Brown, Bill Fleming, Katie Miller, Ted Scribner, and Bill Wagner each brought strategic, community, and professional skills to bear. I would also very much like to credit former trustees chair Jennifer Tickell for leading the foundational planning work that launched the renovation project. Of course, we’d be nowhere if not for our great library director, Joanne Lamothe.

Over the coming weeks, we will begin planning our next steps. We do not yet know when actual construction will begin, nor have we yet chosen an interim location from which to offer services. We’ll get the word out as soon as we know.

There is one thing we do know. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and you’ll all be invited!
