The Sandwich High School Class of 2021 is the second—and, with luck, the last—group of students to have its graduating year directly affected by COVID-19. Our hearts go out to them as well as their teachers, fellow students and families.

This is not the carefree capstone year that many of the students had anticipated. Yet, like any other year, it has been filled with incredible achievements worth celebrating and important personal stories worth sharing.

Last week, some parents of SHS seniors approached the school committee with concerns that their children are becoming “The Forgotten Class."

“They are feeling powerless and lost,” one parent said. “We need to show them how important they are to our community and how excited we are for their future.”

Count us in.

To give these students some of the acknowledgment and positive attention they are due, we have partnered with the Sandwich Public Schools to start a new regular feature in The Sandwich Enterprise: our weekly Senior Spotlight profiles.

Our goal with the Senior Spotlights is to feature as many Sandwich seniors as possible between now and the end of the summer. It will be like a public preview of the school’s yearbook.

Thank you for reading these pieces and for helping us recognize the Class of 2021!
