State Representative Randy Hunt recently announced that he will not be seeking reelection to a sixth term to represent the 5th Barnstable district on Beacon Hill. Representative Hunt has served the people of his district for nearly a decade and has done so with great distinction and he will leave very large shoes to fill.
Although I may not always have agreed with his stand on issues, I could not fault him for his positions, as he always expended a significant amount of effort to formulate his conclusions. On many occasions we discussed issues that were before the Legislature and it was always apparent that Representative Hunt was in complete command of both sides of the matter. Rather than be driven by ideology, Mr. Hunt endeavored to work with his colleagues to bring about solutions which would benefit all of his constituents.
The unfortunate truth is that valued legislators like Mr. Hunt move on more frequently after serving their community while far too many make careers out of politics. His decision to step down to allow for someone with fresh ideas and solutions to step up speaks volumes to his character which is that of someone who always puts his community first.
