Numbers don’t lie.

You indicate the “good news” behind those who get vaccinated against COVID-19, citing one example of a 95 percent drop in disease in southeastern Brazil, where 95 percent of 45,000 residents received the Corona-Vac shot.

Sadly, in our country, where supplies of vaccines are ample and going wasted, we learn that in many American counties with low COVID-19 vaccination rates, disease is surging. In Smith County, Tennessee, where only 23 percent of the population has been vaccinated, there has been a 700 percent increase in hospitalizations in the past two weeks (New York Times database). Even worse is the fact that people who become ill with COVID-19 are now in most age groups and more likely to be hospitalized because the variants are more dangerous.

It’s amazing to me that so many people are afraid of, or simply won’t get vaccinated given the indisputable evidence of efficacy and consequently less likelihood of spreading disease. Hundreds of millions have received it with no serious widespread ill effects.
