Another Trophy

Sophomore Emma Abramson shows off her second-place trophy from the Cape and Islands League championship that she won on Monday.

Sandwich High’s excellent sophomore golfer Emma Abramson took second place for the second time in as many tries at the 2021 Cape and Islands League individual championship on Monday, June 7, at Kings Way Golf Club in Yarmouthport.

Abramson, who played for the undefeated SHS boys’ golf team last spring, overcame a slow start at King’s Way to put up an excellent round of 65. Most years that would be good enough to win the championship, but Monomoy High’s Jennie Grogan, also a sophomore, went out and broke the women’s course record by shooting a round of three-under-par 57.

Grogan and Abramson also finished 1-2 the last time that the tournament was held, in 2019, when they were both 8th-graders.

Abramson’s round did not get off the way she would have liked. She shot a bogey on each of the first five holes before parring each of the last 13. Grogan was scorching hot all day long and holed five birdies in her winning round.
