Sandwich High School tightened its grip on first place in the Cape and Islands League field hockey race for the regular season championship with yet another victory on Wednesday, October 6. This time the Blue Knights scored two goals in the first half and made them stand up in a 2-0 win over visiting Nauset at DeConto Stadium.
With the win the Knights improved to 8-0-1 for the season. With Falmouth High losing a tough 1-0 game at Dennis-Yarmouth on Wednesday, Sandwich is now solidly in control of the Cape and Islands League race as FHS fell to 6-1-2.
Sandwich put its goals on the board in the first half, then cruised past the Warriors from there. Emily Souke got the first one, with an assist going to Alivia Barnes. The second goal came off of the stick of Haley McLaughlin, with Paige Hawkins setting that one up.
Sarah Currey once again posted a shutout in net for SHS. It was the eighth game in a row in which Sandwich did not allow a goal. For the season the Knights have surrendered a total of just one goal.
Last Friday the Knights took care of Nantucket at home. Hawkins led the way with a two-goal performance in her team’s 4-0 win over the Whalers. Souke and Emma Dintino had the other goals for SHS.
