Three different players scored goals as the Sandwich High School field hockey team won their first league game of the season in demonstrative fashion over Barnstable High School at DeConto Field on Wednesday, September 22. The Knights improved to 3-0 overall on the year with a thorough 3-0 win over the Red Hawks.
Sandwich’s offense had its lowest total output of the season so far, which was still pretty good. For the year the Knights have now outscored their opponents 14-1.
Emma Dintino got the scoring started for SHS by snapping in a penalty stroke just two minutes into the game. Later in the half Arianna Tedeschi put home a pass from Julia Giampietro to double the lead.
In the second half, Lily Tobin put the game out of reach. Tobin finished off a feed from Haley McLaughlin to give SHS a 3-0 advantage over the Hawks.
Sarah Currey faced seven shots in the Sandwich goal during the game. She stopped all seven to record the shutout.
SHS will face off against Dennis-Yarmouth Friday, September 24, at 3:30 on the road for their second league contest. On Monday the Lady Knights will host Middleboro at 4 PM and then on Wednesday the team travels to Falmouth for a big Cape and Islands League rivalry tilt.
