In its first year of varsity existence, the Sandwich girls’ golf team captured a state title, finishing first overall at the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton on Monday, June 3.
With a combined score of 370 on the long par 73 course in western Massachusetts, the Knights finished 12 strokes ahead of the second-place finisher, Duxbury.
Eighth-grader Emma Abramson, who’s score also went to her qualifying individual state championship score, shot a team-low 90, while Bridget Lopes and Kristina Thimme each shot a 92. Senior captain Emily Hunt shot a 96. Kaylee Quinn finished with a 109 while Caitlin Wick rounded out the scoring with a 146.
“To go as far as we did is crazy,” Sandwich head coach Bob Travers said. “You can’t top it.”
