Members of the Sandwich girls’ golf team, in its first year of varsity existence, take a selfie with the state title trophy after claiming first play in the state tournament on Monday, June 3.

In its first year of varsity existence, the Sandwich girls’ golf team captured a state title, finishing first overall at the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton on Monday, June 3.

With a combined score of 370 on the long par 73 course in western Massachusetts, the Knights finished 12 strokes ahead of the second-place finisher, Duxbury.

Eighth-grader Emma Abramson, who’s score also went to her qualifying individual state championship score, shot a team-low 90, while Bridget Lopes and Kristina Thimme each shot a 92. Senior captain Emily Hunt shot a 96. Kaylee Quinn finished with a 109 while Caitlin Wick rounded out the scoring with a 146.

“To go as far as we did is crazy,” Sandwich head coach Bob Travers said. “You can’t top it.”
