The Sandwich High School tennis team pulled out a close one against Nauset High School on the road Wednesday, June 9. The Knights swept singles play to score a 3-2 win against the Warriors’ girls’ team.

Charles Gurner won the first singles match against Alex Lily. Gurner took the first set 6-3, and the second by a score of 6-4.

At second singles Andrew Emell handled Francesca Lily in straight sets. Emell took both sets by scores of 6-1.

Pablo Gonzalez finished off a close win against Nicole Boyce in the third singles spot. Gonzalez won the match of the day as he won the first set 7-6 (7-5) and then took the second 6-2.

In doubles, Sandwich’s Emily Lopes and Katelyn Lerch were bested by Lily Nannini and Heather Peterson in straight sets. Both sets ended with the Nauset team taking it 6-2.

The second doubles the team of Kaitlyn Landry and Callie Burgess had a comeback fall short against Nauset’s Michelle Henault and Jill Ernstrom. After losing the first set 6-1 the Sandwich duo fought hard in the second set, but lost that one by a score of 7-5.
