Sandwich Volleyball vs. Dennis-Yarmouth — October 15, 2019

The Sandwich volleyball team lost in three sets at home to Dennis-Yarmouth during the Knights Dig Pink charity game on Tuesday, October 15.

On a night when the Sandwich volleyball team were holding its Dig Pink charitable game at home, the Blue Knights dug themselves a hole they couldn’t get out of.

Hosting Dennis-Yarmouth in a Cape & Islands Atlantic showdown on Tuesday, October 15, Sandwich fell in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-22 and 25-22. Following a slow start that saw the Dolphins jump out to a big lead in the first set, the Knights gathered their composure and fought admirably over the final two sets—treating the home crowd to some thrilling volleys and displaying all-out effort.

The Dig Pink Challenge, powered by All Volleyball and the Side-Out Foundation, is a volleyball-centric initiative to raise money for stage IV metastatic breast cancer research, according to the website

Squaring off a familiar face in Middleboro on Monday, October 14, the Blue Knights scored a match sweep against the Sachems in a nonleague game.

Sandwich won in straight sets as head coach Rachel Frederickson outdueled Sachems head coach Dennis Green, who also serves as the Blue Knights boys’ basketball coach, to earn their sixth win of the season.

Paula Tanguilig was named the player of the match as she compiled 17 digs, six aces and tallied 20 service points for Sandwich. Junior captain Marie McManamin had one ace to go with 12 kills while senior captain Meghan Heyer also had an ace and six kills.

Maddie Ocampo put forth seven kills while Jade Ferguson put together a 35-dig performance as the team’s defensive specialist. Senior Nina Sundermeyer had four aces and 14 assists while sophomore Delaney Jensen had 17 assists, five digs and an ace from the setter position.

Sandwich (6-8, 2-4 C&I Atlantic) hosts Middleboro to wrap up its regular season home-and-home series October 18 at 5:30 PM.
