The Sandwich High School Blue Knights and the Martha’s Vineyard Vineyarders swimming and diving teams met at the Sandwich High pool Thursday, December 19. Great performances on both sides made for an exciting meet from start to finish.

For the girls, Sandwich came away with a 101-74 win and advanced to 2-0 on the season. Strong performances by Emma Eastman, Emma Jakubicka, and Paige Trepainer led the way. The quartet of Eastman, Jakubicka, Trepanier, and Grace Pimental continued to be dominant in the relay events, taking first in both the 200-yard medley relay (2:08.54) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:56.87).

Sandwich also received support from Cora Palomar-Nelson with a third-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley while Maria Hurley took first place in the 100-yard backstroke.

The Blue Knight divers also swept their event, with Posie Pleso coming in first, Bridget Lopes second, and Trinity Poon taking third.

The Vineyarders were led by Gabby Carr with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.47) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:39.04). Eleanor Hyland was also a double-winner taking the freestyle sprint events, 50-yard freestyle (29.69) and 100-yard freestyle (1:08.08). The foursome of Olympia Hall, Lily Haynes, Hyland and Carr won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time 4:34.45

On the boys’ side, Sandwich also came away with a victory, 108-35, and improved to 2-0 as well.

The strong relay team of Dawson Milligan, Jacob Sullivan, Forrest Kiedeisch, and Nico Gentile won both the 200 Medley Relay (1:51.58) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:41.07). Kiedeisch fought a tough battle in the 200-yard freestyle, narrowly beating out the Vineyarders’ Ruairi Mullin (2:04.90) with a time of 2:04.73. Milligan and Sullivan battled each other in the 200-yard individual medley for first and second place.

Sean Landry continued to be strong in the 50-yard freestyle, just barely out-touching Christian Flanders of MV (0:25.90) with a time of 0:25.43. MV’s Mullin was dominant in the 100-yard freestyle, taking the event with a time of 55.98 while teammate Oliver Dorr (0:56.20) came in second. Milligan had an outstanding race in the 100-yard backstroke, taking it with a time of 1:00.22.

Sandwich (B 2-0, G 2-0) is off for winter break and will be back to racing on Saturday, January 4, for the Cape Cod Classic held on Nantucket.
